The municipality of Capdepera includes the tourist resorts on the most eastern part of the island of Majorca: Cala Ratjada, Font de Sa Cala, Canyamel and Cala Mesquida. This is one of the least developed parts of the island, with a long tradition, large natural areas and numerous unspoilt beaches. In the Serra de Llevant lie the valleys of “Sa Mesquida”, containing the most important chain of dunes in Majorca, such as “Munt Gros”, and the “Vall de Canyamel” in the southern half, through which runs the stream by the same name which flows into the sea at Canyamel beach. These two areas are highly valued for their wildlife and scenery, and have been declared “Natural Areas of Special Interest” by the Government of the Balearic islands.
