[Cala Mesquida Beach]

Cala Mesquida is the most open beach in the municipality of Capdepera. It is set in a large area with very little urban pressure, and as an example of this, the coastal area stretching from Cala Mesquida to Cala Agulla does not contain a single building. An important feature is its range of well preserved dunes. In times gone by, the area was an important tobacco and coffee smuggling centre, to such an extent that a Guardia Civil post (now in ruins) was built in an attempt to control it. This cove is characterised by its choppy seas, which arise when the wind blows from the north; at such times it is recommended that bathers stay close to the water’s edge. It is very popular among Majorcans and has kept a good balance between peacefulness, comfort and entertainment.
